The Story Behind the Image - Ep. 003
"For the Love of Life, Art and Memories"
I am grateful that my weddings span Cultures. It is exciting because LOVE, the kind that unites those in love is Universal.
This amazing Habesha Wedding, rich in African culture and tradition, spanned two full days. In the midst of family reunion and marital union, there was the Regal Grandmother of the Bride (who flew in from East Africa). I was smitten!
I know my assignment: my Bride and Groom. But how could I resist getting an elegant portrait of my Brides 90+ year old grandmother - I couldn't! With moments to spare, I waited patiently. This portrait WAS NOT POSED by the way. I just sat across the room and waited...
Within that moment, I captured a memory and a moment that will last generations. The expression and skin tone. Her wedding day attire and the texture. And the stories in her face. By far my most precious Portrait of the Year - at a spectacular wedding. Oh, wait a minute! Almost forgot. And there there was the wedding...
The Story Behind the Image - Ep. 002
My couple, Mike and Anne, were able to secure my Artistic service at the last possible moment: we met on Wednesday – the wedding was on Saturday! Yes, the same week. Their scheduled photographer notified them Monday (of that week) that he was not able to do their wedding (circumstances totally beyond his control).
Anne reviewed www.TheVisualArtistStudios.com and loved the work (this is the basis of how I begin my service to my amazing clients). If my client(s) love the Art, then all else is negotiable. The wedding location was the The Chart House Restaurant – Redondo Beach, CA, literally at the Beach.
My Bride wanted something Beautiful, Dramatic and Epic. So here are our elements: Beautiful Bride, Custom Wedding Dress and the Pacific Ocean on a Summer morning. The result: The Visual Artist Studios – Signature Portrait.
And of course there was the wedding...

EPIC! Engagement: Robert & Ashley
What an awesome day in San Diego, CA at BALBOA PARK. I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph this Beautiful couple: Robert & Ashley. And thank you Mr. Terriss Brown of Tb1 Photography for your assistance with this session.
This beautiful bride to be, Ms. Ashley, I’ve known her since she was a little girl. And now she’s about to be married… sniff, sniff. And she’s also a “Bad-Ass” BASS Player! And this young man, Mr. Robert, is respectful, Hilarious and handsome. He’s also a Veteran of these United States! In addition, his chest is bigger than my body.
Needless to say, I am happy and excited for this Couple. Robert & Ashley… Blessings.

First, I'd like to welcome our new Team member, Angelica: The Visual Artist Studios Make Up Artist and Stylist. In this installment Angelica (who is a Licensed Nurse, Interior Designer, Entrepreneur, Make Up Artist [MUA] and Stylist) put together some key points for our wonderful Brides pre-wedding skin care (that's also useful as a daily habit as well).
To our Brides, not only will you receive the Best in Fine Art Wedding Portraiture, but you'll benefit from having a MUA/Stylist available on your day to ensure you look radiant and fabulous!

Below are a few daily skin care tips for our Beautiful Brides. We want our Brides to glow from the inside out.
Drink a glass of warm water with lemon upon waking each morning. Try to stay away from coffee and sugar. Hot or iced green tea sweetened with stevia throughout the day is a great alternative to coffee or sugary drinks. Incorporate as many raw or steamed vegetables as possible to each meal. Add veggies to everything! (veggie omelets, chopped salads, or you can just juice them).
Here is a list of skincare products that I use and recommend. Some are a little pricey but worth it:
- Cetaphil cleanser (Target) AM/PM
The following can be found at www.dermstore.com
- Elta MD physical sunscreen
- Skin Ceuticals C E Feruic Acid - AM before sunscreen
- Neocutis Bio Serum Intensive - PM after cleansing
- Nia 24 Intensive Recovery Complex - PM after serum
Avoid any harsh scrubs or chemicals in the days leading to wedding. Retin- A is amazing but I wouldn't recommend it until after the wedding because it will cause some peeling and redness. Get as much sleep as you can and be good to yourself. Delegate as much as you can and enjoy the beautiful moments leading up to your special day.
XOXO,
Angelica
